Why is internet via satellite not as popular as other systems?

Above the earth now is a mesh of thousands of LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites that are orbiting the earth approximately every 90 minutes. They orbit at an altitude of only 550km so the latency is extremely low. In fact, the latency is so low that, from point A to point B, it can be faster than optic fibre on the ground over long distances.
